Our School
Testbourne Community School
Testbourne is a well-established, rural community school, situated in the town of Whitchurch and serving the surrounding area. It is a mixed, comprehensive school for pupils aged 11-16 with approximately 780 pupils on roll. Our Pupil Admission Number is 156, and in most recent years we have been oversubscribed. We are a Foundation School and have specialist status in the Performing Arts. In November 2010 we were judged to be “an outstanding school” by Ofsted.
The main aim of our school is to produce happy, confident and successful members of society, who have regard for themselves and others in all that they do.
We offer a diverse curriculum, with traditional and vocational pathways to success; year-on-year our students achieve excellent examination results, amongst the best in the county, and make progress far in excess of national averages.
At Testbourne we seek to provide the best possible education for all pupils by providing high quality teaching and by fostering the highest standards of work and behaviour. We wish to offer all pupils the maximum opportunities for personal success and fulfilment by creating a caring and supportive environment in which each person feels secure, valued and able to reach their potential.
Our pupils may be gifted academically; they may be good at sport or physical activity; they may be particularly practical, creative or artistic; they may be able socially, finding it easy to get on with other people – whatever their talents we aim to find and encourage them.
We believe that good behaviour is essential to allow these talents to flourish and to enable
pupils to achieve the highest standards. Our ultimate aim is for pupils to develop an understanding of the need for self-discipline and the will and confidence to succeed. We emphasise the need for a calm and orderly school, where pupils exercise good manners and show respect and consideration for others at all times. We are a rights-respecting school and we make sure that our students understand the importance of the 3Rs – Rights, Respect and Responsibility in all that they do. We are pleased that visitors to the school often compliment our students on their good behaviour and positive attitude to work as well as commenting on the happy atmosphere and good relationships.
We want our school and the students who belong to it to be the best we can be. We have an excellent team of very well-qualified subject specialist teachers and support staff who are committed to helping our students do just that and to making our already “outstanding “school an even better place to be.
