Governing Body Roles and Responsibilities

Testbourne Governing Body’s primary role is to ensure our school has clear vision, ethos, and strategic direction.  As a foundation school, the Governing Body is also the employer of all its staff and is responsible for determining the school’s aims and values, for monitoring how it operates and ensuring that it is run in accordance with these aims and values.

More specifically, the Governing Body:

• Oversees the school’s strategic direction and objectives, as written in the school’s improvement plan and monitors its progress
• Approves the school’s policies and ensures the school complies with its statutory duties
• Appoints, supports and holds the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its students and the effective and efficient performance management of staff
• Oversees the financial performance of the school and makes sure its money is well spent
• Promotes the welfare of our students and staff and ensures that safeguarding is a priority and effectively managed

The Governing Body has a membership of seventeen and meets in person a minimum of five times during the school year.  In addition, we have delegated committees who meet each term, to focus on and report back to the Governing Body on:

• Curriculum, Standards and Welfare
• Finance, Community and Business
• Personnel and Pay
