It is vital that pupils attend regularly and we work hard to achieve excellent levels of attendance. Pupils who attend well do better at school. Poor attendance inevitably leads to lack of progress and poor examination results and this means that a student can be poorly placed to do the courses they may wish to do at college or indeed to find satisfactory employment.
We monitor students’ attendance closely, we have electronic registration and an automatic absence calling system, which calls the parent of any child not marked present each morning if we have not been notified of a reason for absence. In the case of illness parents must ring the school on the first day of absence and write and sign a note which must be given to the child’s tutor on returning to school.
We rely on parents not to take children out of school unless it is absolutely necessary and the Head is unlikely to authorise holiday requests at key times of the academic year.
