Walking Talking English Mock
Year 11 took part in a specialist masterclass on Monday 18th November, led by our Head of English, Mr Matthews,. The focus was looking at the marks for each question from their Mock Language paper with a forensic approach so that students knew exactly what they needed to do to improve on their grades. Mr Matthews started with the national picture and the grade breakdown for each question to benchmark students at Testbourne.
Students were then shown model exemplars of students working at different levels and they had to apply this knowledge to another past paper in the Theatre Hall. Year 11 were then provided with expert commentary and identification of what makes a successful answer from Grades 1-9 to reflect a comprehensive intake. Staff were given the booklets to continue in class for more bespoke training with students of different abilities. Extension work was set to ensure that students are aware of what skills and techniques need to be applied if they are to achieve at the highest grade for English Language. We hope that the experience was invaluable for our students and thank you Mr Matthews for this unique opportunity and hope that our Year 11 will use this to their advantage and build on the knowledge and exam insight they gained from this experience.
